Explore the pure beauty of Nepal running on these races.

The Manjushree Trail Race (MTR) in Kathmandu is one of Nepal’s longest 100-mile/175 km trail running races. It is one of Nepal’s only two Asia Trail Master (ATM) Championship qualifiers that will take place from March 14 to 16, 2025. The MTR is the first Nepalese points race in ATM since 2018’s Ultra Trail Nepal. Most importantly, it is gaining high popularity because of Rashila Tamang‘s win in the Asia Trail Master Championship 2023. The race is rapidly becoming renowned and rising as Nepal’s leading international trail running competition. Rashila Tamang has played a key role in qualifying MTR for the Asia Trail Master Championship and promoting Nepal’s trail running races internationally.

The MTR is a trail running festival featuring 100-mile, 100-kilometer, and 50-kilometer races. Participants can score points on these race courses to qualify for the ATM Final. For trail runners, the Manjushree Trail Race offers a demanding and distinctive endurance test. Every runner must be mentally, and physically strong enough and remain determined to finish the race. The race features single-track trails, rocky paths, and steep climbs along the Kathmandu Valley Rim ridge. It goes through two national parks and across the seven highest peaks that circle the valley. These peaks offer the wide vistas of Kathmandu city and the panoramic snow-capped Himalayas.

The Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon is a famous high-altitude trail running event in Nepal, taking place on May 9-11, 2025. Starting at Jumla bazaar (2,305m) and ending at Rara Lake (2,990m), the 49 km course includes uphill and downhill sections. Along with notable landmarks like Danphe (3,500m), Kavra cave, Bhulbhule (2,950m), and Chuchemara (4,017m).

Logistically, it is easier for all the runners to participate in MTR. It is because the race event is in the capital city, Kathmandu with more amenities. Also, the MTR 100 miler is the main highlight of MTR. It is for all the ultra-distance runners looking for the longest trail running race in Nepal.

In contrast, it’s a hassle to participate in JRUM because of transportation and geographical location to reach Jumla. It takes a long travel via both flight and vehicle to get to Jumla. But if you want to experience trail running in remote and high altitudes, this is the race you need to run.

Nepal is, without a doubt, the cheapest and top travel destination in the world. The Himalayan country offers adventure trail running events to a wide range of athletes whether you are a beginner or an elite runner. Nepal’s terrains are the best in the world for trail running. It offers the Himalayan vistas, rich cultures, wildlife, and natural diversity within its small territory. Indeed, the varied trails of hills and Himalayas here are really for trail running camps and training for your next big event. Have you signed up for the race? It is the time to lace up and hit the trail!
